Congrats to Stacey Shaner our Athlete of The Month!!
There is no doubt that Crossfit619 is filled with kick-ass women and this months Female Athlete of the Month, Stacey, does not disappoint!
Stacey was a Ragin Cajun at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette… For those scratching their heads as to what a Ragin Cajun is, she was part of the Division 1 Soccer Team! Stacey played center back for two years before getting injured. Growing up, Stacey participated in track, cross-country, dance, tennis, softball and soccer.
Not only is Stacey kick-ass in sports, but she’s also a superhero, in disguise, of course! Stacey is a Trial Attorney who specializes in Dependency Law for a non-profit law firm. Representing children in the Welfare System and making sure they are taken care of.
Stacey’s commitment and strength are among the many qualities that make her an amazing woman and we are very happy that she is part of the CF619 Family.
How did you get involved in CrossFit?
I got involved with CrossFit because I saw a Groupon for 619 and I was interested in trying a workout “class” in an effort to loose weight for my wedding. This was back in July 2012. I did not know anything about Crossfit, but I played soccer in college and figured I could handle it…boy was I in way over my head.
What was your first WOD/experience?
The first Crossfit experience I had was pushing those weighted sleds over the concrete about 50 feet in a multiple round race with another two person team. I puked. The first WOD experience that I remember is Whitten. We did this WOD after I had been there a few months, so before that I must have mentally blocked out all of the WODs.
How long have you been CrossFitting for?
I have been crossfitting since July 9, 2012. I can’t imagine life without it, especially the 5 am crew! But, honestly, the entire crossfit family, both the athletes and the coaches, are amazing. The encouragement, passion, and friendly competition that the 619 family provides is the main reason I continue to show up!
What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment is becoming active again and being excited about it! For about the 5 years before I found crossfit, I probably went for a run once a month (maybe). Also, being able to do a pull-up is really empowering!
What is your favorite/least favorite WOD/movement?
My favorite WOD is probably Grace. I love power cleans and burpees. I really like WODs that involve the olympic lifts. My least favorite WOD is probably anything involving pull-ups!
What do you do for a profession outside of Crossfit?
I am a trial attorney at a non-profit law firm
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
I am a total foodie. I love fine (and not so fine) dining. You can regularly find me watching the Food Network or Cooking Channel. I also love to cook and try new recipes when I have the time. Needless to say, Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I am also a big reader. I hate to admit it, but I usually go straight to the Y.A. Section, and my favorites are the first and second books in the Hunger Games Series. Lastly, I am a huge football fan in general, but I am a die-hard Oklahoma Sooner fan!!
As for my fitness goals, I would love to be able to be able to do 30+ pull-ups in a row. I would also like to be able to do a muscle-up.
